|Behind Chained Gates - By Moira Linaker
Paperback 151 pages (March 2004), Publisher: Hayloft, ISBN: 1904524168.
A very human story of an ordinary woman dealing with a lifetime of extraordinary events, including her protest at what she saw as heavy handed and ill-informed bureaucracy in the fight against the unseen and deadly opponent of foot and mouth disease.
November 2003: Moira now has a new home in Greenhead, between Brampton and Haltwhistle, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, and just over the border from Cumbria, a few hundred yards from Hadrian's Wall.
August 2003: Moira has moved from her home in Warwick bridge, and is residing in a temporary property in Northumberland. When she has a permanent home for her and her sheep, we will let you know.
July 2003: Moira attended the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh, where Mr Universe won 4th prize.
During the Foot and Mouth Crisis in 2001, Moira resisted the culling of her sheep, (see press items below), and wrote to the Prince of Wales who has an interest in the rare and minority breeds.
When Prince Charles came to Cockermouth, Moira had a private meeting with him, and he is now the owner of two of Moira's Ryeland sheep. When the time is right, these will be taken to Highgrove, thus introducing Ryelands back into the Royal Family, where they were in the reign of King George III.
